After 16 years in Beijing, Sanlitun’s the Opposite House will be shutting its doors for good as of July 2024.

More than just a luxury home away from home, the hotel housed within the sleek glass building in Taikooli was also home to dining spots like modern Sichuan eatery Superfly, Italian restaurant Frasca, award-winning cocktail lounge Union (lead image), and one Michelin starred Jing Yaa Tang.

It wasn't just restaurants and bars, but events as well, from regular art parties in the hotel lobby and fantastical end of year parties. All this combined to make it a favorite not just in among Beijing expats and locals, but celebrities as well like Victoria Beckham, Blake Lively, and Justin Beiber. Sadly, these venues will be saying goodbye as well when the hotel closes on Jun 30.

According to an announcement from the hotel published on their WeChat (see below), the space will be converted into an “innovative retail landmark” by Taikooli Sanlitun.

Whatever comes out of the soon to be former Opposite House, it’ll be sad to see the hotel – and all the great eateries, activities, and art events they hosted – gone for good. Be sure to visit them before the end of June and pour one out for this Sanlitun stalwart.
